Minigolf and Swiss sports history: this is how it works...
Lauberhorn Crazygolf Wengen
Experience a piece of Swiss sports history at mini golf - you can do that at Lauberhorn Crazy Golf in Wengen in the Bernese Oberland of Switzerland. Each of the 18 holes tells something about the Lauberhorn race, which has been held annually in Wengen since 1930. At 4.5 kilometres, the descent from the Lauberhorn is the longest in the Alpine Ski World Cup, and thanks to its gradient, ski racers can reach speeds of up to 160 km/h here.
Minigolf course
The minigolf course is not quite as fast - but it is all the more creative in relation to the famous ski race: On one of the tracks, for example, you shoot the ball through a "snow cannon" in the direction of the hole, make cow bells ring, measure the speed of the ball on a display on one of the mini-golf tracks, have a miniature slalom track with flags through which the ball is played on another track and much more.
History of the Lauberhorn Race
Along the way, you will also learn about the famous parts of the race, such as the so-called "Österreicherloch", where in 1954 the favourites Toni Sailer, Anderl Molterer and Walter Schuster all failed due to three humps on the track, went off the track at the same place and dropped out of the race. One track is also dedicated to the famous 4000m peaks of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, which form the Wengen Alpine panorama. From Wengen you can make high mountain tours to the peaks of this so-called "triumvirate". But there are also worthwhile hiking routes with less altitude difference, for example to Wengernalp, Männlichen or Kleine Scheidegg.
